Proteus Engineering's staff of marine engineers have a broad range of experience. Listed below is an example of a typical project that Proteus has completed. Please contact us to discuss how we can help you with your marine engineering needs.
PROPULSION SYSTEMS SURVEY FOR THE USCG DEEPWATER SURFACE PLATFORM Proteus Engineering was tasked by the Marine Engineering Branch, U.S. Coast Research and Development Center, to investigate propulsion systems that may be candidates for the Coast Guard's Deepwater Surface Platform. The study outlines the significant characteristics, advantages and disadvantages of the candidate propulsion system components. System components included in the study are diesel engines, gas turbines, fuel cells, gear drives, azimuthing drives, electric drive, controllable pitch propellers, fixed pitch propellers and waterjets. The project includes an MS Excel model to estimate system weight, space claim, fuel consumption, NOX emissions and acquisition cost based on components selected, installed power and operation profile. |

Tank Barge Vapor Recovery System Design A customer's new barge required a Vapor Recovery System installation, which was to be retrofit immediately following delivery. Proteus Engineering was asked to work with the customer, the repair yard, and equipment suppliers to design the system and prepare the design and analysis package for submission to the U.S. Coast Guard for approval. The design and analysis effort included:
By creating and maintaining a computer model for the pressure loss calculations, changes to the piping layout that were required to accommodate deck layout changes were able to be quickly and economically incorporated in the calculations. The system was designed on schedule and Coast Guard approval was received well ahead of the installation schedule for the system. |
